Helga Veigl

Futurist, The Futures Lab, INC., USA

Helga studied for her PhD in Futures Studies at Corvinus University in Budapest. She has taught undergraduate and masters level courses in Futures Studies (The Science of Foresight) and contributed to the development of course content for the Future Studies’ curriculum. She is a seasoned workshop facilitator on multiple foresight projects, with specific emphasis on systems thinking, foresight processes and modeling.

Helga is an expert in Weak Signals and the application in creating future insights, indicators and scenarios. Helga is the founding member and former Secretary of Hungarian Association of the Club of Rome.

She is an Academic Researcher and has worked on multiple EU and government research projects on outlining strategies for economic and environmental development. Helga is also the co-author of numerous book chapters and journal articles on Futures Studies theory and practice.

Derek Woodgate

President and Chief Futurist, The Futures Lab, INC., USA

Derek Woodgate is a consulting futurist, educator, author, speaker and curator. He is the President and Chief Futurist of The Futures Lab, a foresight consultancy, he founded in 1996, which specializes in creating future potential for major corporations and institutions.
Clients have included Intel, Microsoft, Philips, Nokia, Ford, Fiat, the Association of Equipment Manufactures, AKZO Nobel, Nestle, Henkel, Nissan, Kellogg’s, Shell, New Holland, universities and government agencies.
Derek is also the CCO of at The Futures Lab's “living the future” events company, The FutureXperience Lab.  
In addition, Derek is an Assistant Professor in the ICT Department of the Engineering and Science Faculty at the University of Adger in Norway and an Adjunct Professor in the Learning Technologies Division of the College of Education and Human Development at Georgia State University. In both cases, he teaches Grad students in the Science of Foresight.

Derek’s book Future Frequencies, published in 2004 was deemed to be major paradigm shift for the field of future studies at the time, and the published sections of his Future Flow are more connected to the human experience in the Augmented Age.

Prior to The Futures Lab Inc., Derek had previous experience as an executive on the board of two major international corporations with over 20 years SVP-level management in global strategy. He started his career as a diplomat with the British FCO. Derek has a MSc. in political Economics and his currently a PhD candidate in the ICT Department at the University of Adger.

Prof. Martin Spraggon

Associate Dean of Academic Affairs , Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government

Professor Martin Spraggon is the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG). Prior to joining MBRSG, he worked as a Professor of Strategic Management at the American University of Sharjah’s (UAE) School of Business Administration where he has also served as the Director of Executive Education. He holds a PhD in Management from HEC Montreal (Canada), an MBA from Sherbrooke University (Canada), and a Master in Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship from Institut Superieur du Commerce de Paris (France).  
 
Spraggon’s areas of specialization include strategic management, design thinking and innovation, organizational behavior, international marketing, and managerial psychology. He has extensive international experience, having conducted many consulting projects and delivered leadership development programs for North American, Western European, Latin American, and Middle Eastern educational institutions and organizations from the private and public sectors.
 
Spraggon’s research on emerging economies, behavioral governance, executive compensation, knowledge dynamics in innovative firms and healthcare management, has been published in journals such as Strategic Management Journal, the Academy of Management Annals, Strategic Organization, Journal of Business Research, Business Ethics: A European Review, Journal of Business Ethics, Health Expectations, and Public Health. His research-driven and practice-based books, titled Mergers and Acquisitions and Executive Compensation and Managing Organizations in the United Arab Emirates: Dynamic Characteristics and Key Economic Developments, were published by Routledge (Taylor & Francis Group) and Palgrave Macmillan, respectively.
 
Spraggon is actively involved in case study research and practice and serves as an Associate Editor of the Emerald Emerging Markets Case Studies collection. He obtained a competitive research grant from the UAE National Research Foundation to analyze corporate governance practices in local family businesses and received the 2013 Rupert Chisholm Best Theory-to-Practice Paper Award of the Academy of Management Organizational Development and Change Division. He frequently assumes responsibilities as a member of international program committees at academic conferences around the world and is a regular speaker and panelist at practitioner-oriented workshops and events.

Dr. Jorge Manuel Miranda Dias

Jorge Dias has a Ph.D. on Electrical Engineering by the University of Coimbra, Portugal, specialization in Control and Instrumentation. Jorge Dias have been professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computers (www.deec.uc.pt ) and researcher from the Institute of Systems and Robotics (ISR) ( www.isr.uc.pt ) from the University of Coimbra (UC) (www.uc.pt). Jorge Dias research is in the area of Computer Vision and Robotics and has contributions on the field since 1984. He has several publications in international journals, books, and conferences. Jorge Dias has been teaching several courses on Computer Vision, Robotics, Automation, he has supervised several Ph.D. students in the topic of Computer Vision and Robotics. Jorge Dias was been principal investigator from several research projects. Jorge Dias coordinates the research group for Artificial Perception for Intelligent Systems and Robotics (http:://ap.isr.uc.pt) of Institute of Systems and Robotics from University of Coimbra and the Laboratory of Systems and Automation (http://las.ipn.pt) from the Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) (www.ipn.pt) - a technology transfer institute from the University of Coimbra, Portugal. Since July 2011, Jorge Dias is on leave of absence to setup the Robotics Institute and research activities on robotics at Khalifa University (Abu Dhabi, UAE).
